Provenance: From a Private Collection in England
Painter: Benwell entered the service of the East India Company in the 1840's.  After which he traveled widely, visiting India, China, Palestine & Egypt by the late 1860's.  This experience inspired his painting consisting almost exclusively of scenes set in the Middle-Eastern landscape, like the present work.
